![]() ![]() This project is an exploration of fine art styles for learning and leisurely purposes. The idea is simple - to draw and share one new Pokemon a day (weekends off!) until every Pokemon from the set is completed. + Pokemon One a Day is a series illustrated and curated by Bonny John in an effort to represent the the first generation of characters from the world wide phenomenon that is known as Pokemon. 2 birds down…1 more to go! See you tomorrow with Moltres! I hope you enjoyed today’s work and write up. I just had to go with my gut feeling that this all worked out and keep on trucking along. I really have no idea how you all will react to this one but I’ve come to like it - it’s high energy like the creature itself. Zapdos here is quite busy - your eyes end up racing all over the place. Thus, I just kept adding and building up the creature. I kinda liked it, but again, I had to make it my own - I didn’t want to use Native American styles if I weren’t doing it right, and Monster Hunter as a style is awesome but I was already too far into the day to stop what I was doing and research Monster Hunter art to have everything in compliance…If you know me by now, I try and get all the details, especially the subtle ones for maximum effect. With experimentation of angular marks and simple markings of shapes like circles and squares, all of a sudden I had a design that seemed to walk out of Monster Hunter with their stylistic depictions of beasts. I had to drop the Native American elements and develop something new. I would eventually get stuck - I was using too many borrowed concepts that weren’t necessarily meshing together. I began a base and started extending from the center, highlighting the main aspects of the body little by little. The creature embodies lightning in more than one way. People give Zapdos offerings in order to bring the storms that follow it.' 231 26 comments Best Add a Comment deleted 4 yr. I mixed and matched what I thought would look nice for Zapdos - a creature who is menacing because of its razord sharp edges. Zapdos (Shiny) - When Zapdos flaps its wings the sound echoes across the Aaku Region. I looked up several birds done in varying Native American inspired, themed, and original art. My Zapdos was born of angular shapes and markings. Zapdos would obviously be based on the concept of the “thunderbird”. Once upon a time, I had considered doing all three legendary birds with a theme - depict them in ethnic art styles with respect to their origins in mythology. Zapdos Inspiration: Zapdos is based on the Thunderbird, a legendary creature from indigenous Native American mythology. The Native American culture is comprised of many tribes, all of whom have their own customs and cultures, including beliefs and distinctions with their artistic capabilities. Let’s find out how it evolved into this end result! Poor matchups against Melmetal, Giratina, and of course Dialga all leave Zapdos a fairly strong Pokémon in some contexts that just isn't worth the slot in GBL.What’s going on in today’s Pokemon One a Day illustration? What kind of style is this? A wanna be Monster Hunter inspired theme? Believe it or not, Zapdos seen here was born with Native American art styles in its beginning phases. However, once again, many other threats see it as a paper doll. The list of threats that it can eliminate grows in this tier, granting it niches against Kyogre and Togekiss in particular. Zapdos shines brightest in the Master League, where its high CP leaves it unbound as a top Electric-type pick for the tier. to a common type it would otherwise have (ground) for two less common typings in competitive play (ice and rock). Zapdos has its niche use, but there are superior choices. Zapdos seems to be based on the Native American legend of the thunderbird, a supernatural bird known for being the spirit of thunder, lightning and rain, most commonly in the form of a bald eagle. It does resist Registeel's charged moves, and deals super effective damage to the likes of Togekiss, Lapras and Poliwrath, but it can still struggle at beating them, and has really bad matchups against other major threats such as Giratina and Swampert. ![]() Zapdos isn't bad per se in the Ultra League it unfortunately just doesn't have a real place in the current meta. All over the Thunderbird symbolizes power, nobility, and strength. However, with the rise of Galarian Stunfisk (which completely walls out Zapdos), the mon is significantly more difficult to run. The Thunderbird has been part of Native American history and culture for many years. ![]() When almost every was Azumarill + Registeel, it was able to fill an interesting antimeta role in somewhat being able to handle both. ![]() It may also have been based on the lightning bird, a bird created from wherever lightning hits the earth. The beating of the wings was said to create thunder. Zapdos almost has potential in Great League. Zapdos seems to be based on the Native American legend of the thunderbird, a spirit of thunder, lightning, and rain that took the form of a giant bird. ![]()
